Gluten intolerant babies.

Diagnosis of gluten intolerance is very difficult to make in a small baby,
its usually a matter of trial and error to get it right,
without putting baby through rigorus and upsetting tests.
An intolerence to gluten if undiagnosed can damage small intestines.

Never introduce gluten into a babys diet untill they are at least 6 month old

If a diagnosis is made of any food intolerance,
then be very careful to make sure baby never gets these foods in its diet.
This may mean a few adjustments to buying or preparing babys foods.
As my doctor said, years ago we had no prepared baby foods as such,
babys ate good home cooking pureed, and there were far less allergies.
So it follows that with a little work, you can cook babys food yourself,
giving her a varied and interesting diet, without gluten or wheat.

After the coeliac condition or wheat intolerance has been diagnosed you must ensure that ALL food eaten by the child is gluten free.

The amount of fat and refined sugar should be restricted in the first month after diagnosis of the coeliac condition,
as the lining of the intestines has to regrow in the absence of gluten before these can be fully absorbed.

Once a child with the coeliac condition is on a totally gluten free diet the child should be completely normal and healthy

most home cooked food, if your careful with ingredients can be pureed for baby to eat too.

steamed fruit and steamed vegetables are good for early weaners. And with a little learning, i
ts easy to find and prepare meats and other things to vary the diet.

you are welcome to send in any gluten and wheat free baby/toddler recipes,
we will print these to help others in the same situation.
